Having finished my A-levels in the summer of 2013, I decided to take some time off from formal education in order to travel and see as much as possible.

Having been bought up having opportunities to travel all over the globe, it became apparent that nurture, had resulted in travel becoming a part of my nature.

I began by travelling from and through Spain-Germany-France and the Netherlands, before finding a temporary home under the watchful majesty of the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland. There I learned to ski and cook, working as a chalet host for the ski season.

On return from my time in Switzerland, I combined my three loves ( Writing, travel and cooking) and began working on my travel and cooking blog, alongside doing some work for TV Conwy and working at a hotel and coffee shop to fund my next adventure. However, the time came that I felt it was time to use these amazing opportunities I have been given to travel, to give back to some worthy charities and causes…along with facing some of my own fears in the process.

Having travelled to Uganda at the age of 16, I became more globally aware than ever. The struggles of the people to provide a rich, varied and culturally sensitive education available to all, truly made an impact on me.

Here in the UK, we are handed our education, spoon fed it, and then sat in a room for 45 minutes to see the outcome. Almost every 16yr old in the country goes through this process of GCSE’s. The children of Uganda are not quite so lucky. Whilst working on a farm in the Ugandan hills, I met a young girl, no older than 1 year old named Tress. After talking with her mother for a while (all through a translator) she asked if I would like to hold the baby. She placed Tress on my lap, and next asked me something that has stayed with me ever since. She asked if I would like to take Tress home, as with me, she would have more opportunity.

Since then I have longed for the opportunity to give back to the global education system in order to make a contribution towards Tress’ future, and the futures of children in her position, all across the globe.
